Ideal Logic System IE fault L2

Ignition lockout after 5 failed attempts

Gas boiler

What it means

Boiler fails to light after 5 ignition attempts and locks out, displaying fault code L2 on the two-digit display.

Likely causes

  1. Insufficient gas pressure at boiler inlet
  2. No 24Vdc supply at gas valve
  3. Faulty gas valve
  4. Faulty spark generator or harness
  5. Faulty ignition electrode or harness
  6. Faulty detection electrode or harness
  7. Blocked condensate pipe
  8. Incorrectly installed flue
  9. Ignition failure
  10. Failed ignition sequence
  11. Gas supply or ignition fault

Where to start

  1. Restart boiler - does it ignite for a short time and then extinguish? If NO, check gas pressure at boiler inlet (>18 mbar). If NO, check gas supply and rectify fault.
  2. If gas pressure YES, check if 24Vdc supply is available at the Gas Valve. If NO, check wiring connection from gas valve to PCB for continuity; if OK, replace the PCB.
  3. If 24Vdc YES, unplug gas valve and check resistance between outside pins is 4KΩ (±2). If NO, replace Gas Valve.

Safety: Isolate gas and power before you open the case. If you have been into the gas side, do a tightness test, and a combustion and flue check before you hand back. Gas Safe (UK) or RGI (Ireland) work only.
